Fewtril #133

We often shy away from understanding and talking about the adverse and harmful consequences of our actions; for those actions seem so much the better if we concentrate instead on the principles that guided them. Such is the mannered and callous way in which we remain faithful to our principles come what may.

What you wrote seemed so close to the Republican line of resoning. You may not have even been thinking of the Repubs when you wrote this. It just seemed to me that it fit the Repubs so well and I was being facetious.

Reminds me of the so many years of "unplanned" bad harvests the Soviet Union seemed to continually have. Must have been that their problems were from forces of nature (and the "sabotage" of enemies of class warfare, namely the bourgeoisie and capitalists) and not the actual socialist system.

And this also reminds me of artifical social engineering - trying to create equality, for example, by forcing through government programs, laws, requirements, which are still renewed even though it can be demonstrated that they don't work.

Oh, and let us not forget the myth of human-induced or -influenced global warming. Science is bunk, the theory is Gospel truth.

Or so they would argue. I admit we (I'm an American conservative, a Republican) do sometimes ignore reality in favor of our principles, but our transgressions in this regard are dwarfed by those of the other side. As it is, our idealism and principles notwithstanding, we tend to be far more practical and utilitarian.

Forgive me for my rant.
