Rather cynical, Sir.

Not nearly cynical enough.

L.A Rollins wrote a good update to it called Lucifer's Lexicon. I wrote the preface to the republished edition.

Excellent, Sir Deogolwulf, and it applies to South Korea in spades!

Or did, until Hwang Woo-suk pushed his claims of 'knowledge' just a bit too far . . . and lost his funding for plagiarism, cooked evidence, and other deceptions.

I therefore infer that there are limits to the grab for funding. As my Italian 'physicist' girlfriend of many years ago once remarked, "If you try to lie in science, Nature just says 'F**k you'."
