Metapogonosis

“Most hold it for a metamorphosis when they shed a false beard.”

I take it that this is a subtle allusion to the current World Cup advert that shows Mr Wayne "Wazza" Rooney sporting a fetching, gingerish, false beard? I had thought you to be above fashionable football hysteria, Mr D.

Gladly I have not witnessed the broadcast hysteria, though I shall endeavour to watch some of the matches. Anyway, if I were to allude to Mr Rooney, I should do so by image of a big, ugly potato with a gingery mould. Not subtle, I admit, but unmissable.

I have no idea whether Mr Newman considers himself a conservative, but since he writes about what he knows about, that pretty much makes him one willy-nilly.
