Fewtril #136

In some circumstances, it takes a great effort to tell the difference between a clever man doing us wrong and an idiot doing his best.

What circumstances might those be?

I was thinking of circumstances in which one is not particularly aware of the causes of one's misfortune, only that behind it lies some human agency. But I'm not satisfied with this fewtril, and I realise moreover that something much better has already been said on similar lines, namely, Hanlon's Razor: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity."

I have posted it anyway (tis only a trifle, after all.)
