Fewtril #196

When one speaks of social decline or decadence, one is referring to the prevalence of people who are corrupt or decadent; and thus, it is not unlikely that the further a society declines, the fewer people there are who can speak of its decline, since those who are corrupt or decadent do not see it that way.

Deogolwulf,

It's been a pleasure going back and reading all your fewtrils lately.

Here is one aphorism that you should know about:

"The prophet who accurately foretells the growing corruption of a society is not believed, because the more that corruption grows, the less it is noticed by the corrupt."

And another that hasn't appeared yet:
"Obviously, in many cases we come up with our ideas, but we are not the first, nor the only ones, to come up with them."

Stephen, thank you. I can't remember most of them. I know that I have grown more reactionary over the last three years. By the way, do you have any plans to publish your translations of the Don's aphorisms in book-form?

No plans--it started out as a private exercise, and after a few years I thought that I may as well do something useful with it.

I've actually heard rumors that an official English translation is being prepared. If I hear anything more, I'll certainly let you know.
