Over the Rainbow

“Don’t believe the worst that you hear about South Africa,” reads a tagline to an article at Comment is Free. [1] Truly, so as not to let anything spoil your belief in a happier land, it is better to close your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears, or, better still, to wrap yourself in the swaddling-opinions of the western media.

Oh, so cynical.

If you carry on like this people will have to look with a bit more discernment at their favourite off-the-shelf 'Most Admired Living Human', Nelson Mandela, and not just use him as the signifier of their, oh so brave, anti-racism.

I'd instead say "Don't believe everything you hear about South Africa."
The worst often is true, but often not everything is true.

The post-terrorist Mandela proved a good deal less bad than the odds would have favoured. For a politician, that's a pretty good performance.

From the comments, we have:

"True, a World Cup under apartheid would have come off much smoother and safer, more tickets sold and everyone's happy. But most of us, black or white, Asian or Indian would rather take the risk of being assaulted, if it means making the country a better place."

Am I a horrible racist for dissenting from the alleged consensus here?

Nelson Mandela was an anti-White, a Marxist. He should have been tried for treason against SA and shot like any other scum. South Africans have a right to exist and be left alone, same as any nation.

Apartheid was a stupid blunder; SA should have just kept SA free from imported labor and the whole Marxist/globo-capitalist/diversity/multiculti disaster might have been averted.

Those who love Mandela love abstract ideas, not real people, and certainly they hate the idea of White races or nations. They are not builders, but naive and feckless dreamers and destroyers.

One thing can be said of Mandela. He got rid of Minnie.

Dearieme - it's effing appalling in SA. The education level is worse than the Congo, for goodness sake.
